Shortcuts, Catwalks, Mazes, and Mews

ActivateYYC2.0 took on a new focus: helping communities transform pedestrian connectors — with grants awarded up to $1600. We funded fun, volunteer-driven projects that engaged the community and created meaningful changes to shared spaces. In doing so, we reimagined these spaces across Calgary as places of greater activity and connectivity. Applicants worked through three phases, with support from the ActivateYYC team as needed and inspiration from the #ReimagineCatwalks Playbook. The goal was to engage neighbours in a makeover of a shortcut that is quick, low cost, and transformative. The three phases were:

Shortcuts, catwalks, mazes & mews or simply “shortcuts” are an important piece of community infrastructure.  They enable residents to efficiently reach key local destinations like schools, parks and shopping.  They also shorten the distance to reach the edge of a physical community.
