Phases

You will work through the three phases, with support from the ActivateYYC team as needed and inspiration from the Catwalks Playbook. The goal is to engage neighbours in a makeover of a shortcut that is quick, low cost, and transformative.

There are 3 Phases to ActivateYYC. Where should you start?

If you already have a location that needs activating, start with Phase 2: SCHEME phase. If not, start with Phase 1: DREAM. If you already have a plan for activating a shortcut in your neighbourhood, move onto Phase 3: ACTIVATE.

 

This is where you bring your neighbours or organization together, identify the shortcuts in your area,  and dream up all the possibilities.

 

To do list:

– Recruit neighbours and volunteers to help

– Identify and evaluate the shortcuts, catwalks, mazes, and mews in your neighbourhood

– Work with an ActivateYYC team member to assist in facilitating the process (optional for organizations)

– Receive up to $200 in funding to cover evaluation expenses and refreshments

 

By the end of the DREAM phase, you will have: a shortcut chosen to activate.

 


 

During this phase, you engage the community in a scheme session, make a plan for activation, figure out what resources and supplies you’ll need, and set a date!

 

To do list:

– Host a SCHEME session to brainstorm ideas for activating your chosen shortcut

– Create a project plan for activating the shortcut, including setting a date

– Work with an ActivateYYC team member to assist in facilitating the process (optional for organizations)

– Receive up to $500 in funding to cover refreshments, marketing your SCHEME session, and brainstorming/planning tools (plus, any unused funding from previous round)

 

By the end of the SCHEME phase, you will have: a project plan and date set to activate your shortcut.

 


 

For the final phase, you will implement your plan, invite your community to join, and showcase your shortcut.

 

To do list:

– Activate the shortcut

– Work with an ActivateYYC team member to assist in facilitating the process (optional for organizations)

– Receive up to $900 in funding to cover supplies and materials needed to activate, marketing for volunteers and participation, and –subject to approval– honorariums for professionals like landscapers or artists (plus, any unused funding from previous rounds)

 

By the end of the ACTIVATE phase, you will have: a completely reimagined, redesigned, and activated shortcut!
