With a previous ActivateYYC grant, Shawnee Evergreen built little free libraries across their community. This year, on September 18, 2022, the community held a family book festival to utilize these wonderful little libraries and build community connections! The event had many parts, including a pre-event scavenger hunt, a professional puppet show with puppet making activities, a reading tent featuring readers from the community presenting books, art in the park where children could paint a wooden bookmark or wand and a book donation drive where children were encouraged to take a book and leave a book. To top it all off, the event offered refreshments in the form of lemonade, rice crispy squares and popcorn!
