Abbeydale Community Garden

The Abbeydale Community Association had a tennis court that was not being utilized, and had potential to be a much more community oriented space. With the help of volunteers, they built a sitting area in the community garden consisting of 4 picnic tables and solar light. The cheap and cheerful use of bucket as weights for the solar lights is a perfect example of tactical urbanism and resourcefulness in action.

Looking back at the project, the organizer mentioned “that it really only takes a small group of like minded individuals to make a change in the neighborhood”. When asked what advice they would give to someone contemplating an activateyyc project, they said “Do it! Do the thing! It’ll be awesome”.
