Sustainable Calgary founded and currently operates an open street adjacent to the Connaught School in the Beltline neighbourhood of Calgary. They were looking to create more vibrant signage that could communicate that the street is open for everyone to use at their leisure. The group received an ActivateYYC grant, and installed a lettered welcome sign and a large informational sign. The signage has already proved to be popular and successful in giving the space more identity. Further, it has increased engagement on the project website and engagement survey as accessed by QR codes on the sign.

The organizer, David Kowel, mentioned “seconds after we installed the informational sign someone came up to read and starting talking to us about the project”.
