During the summer of 2023, the Federation invited 3 summer students to engage with the study of tactical urbanism in the city of Calgary. These students came from a variety of backgrounds including electrical engineering, public policy, and design. While they weren’t familiar with placemaking entering the summer, the trio created a quickly rallied together to create a brilliant example of turning space into place, in the community of Taradale. The talented summer students used colours, cheap materials, and thoughtful design in order to create a gathering place for the area where new and old connections could be strengthened.
