PARK(ING) DAY IS BACK!
September 20-22, 2024
@ Kensington BIA
Park(ing) day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and empty spaces to convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable places for people. Additionally, we want to celebrate the way Kensington has already seasonally transformed many of its parking spaces, and seen the benefits of public space in action. More information about the global park(ing) day movement can be found HERE.
The event will concentrate around Kensington Rd and Kensington Cres. Partnering with the Kensington BIA, and with permission from local businesses, we will use existing patio/boardwalk spaces, empty spaces between barriers, a handful of parking stalls, and any other other odds and ends we can activate throughout the weekend.
The event will run throughout the weekend of September 20-22, with the bulk of the festivities happening on the Sunday. Setup of stalls and installations will happen on Friday morning/afternoon, and tear down will happen Sunday late-evening.
YOU! ActivateYYC will be managing applications from students, artists, designers, creatives, and businesses to “activate a stall” for the weekend. We are also actively seeking sponsors and funders for various prizes and celebrations. The Federation of Calgary Communities and ActivateYYC are thrilled to partner with the Kensington BIA and the City of Calgary to make this event happen.
Reservations will be made on a first come first served basis… register today! Registration closes September 13th, or when spots fill up.
