Brentwood Pathway Paintings

Brentwood Pathway Paintings

After originally applying with ActivateYYC in July 2019, this idea dreamed up by Brentwood’s community members came to fruition on a warm Saturday that very same year. The goal was to engage the community and create a fun activity that would have a lasting impact since many of the catwalks in Brentwood were overgrown and neglected. Thus, a Paint the Pavement project on the larger pathway extending across the school fields towards Northland Mall began to bring community members together and put some love into Brentwood’s paths!

First, they wanted the City to repair the buckling in the pavement. After much back and forth organizing logistics and timeline, the Roads department repaved the damaged section of the pathway. After obtaining the permission from the Parks Department, it was finally time to begin the fun. In the morning of the official painting day, a few community members helped prep the area and paint on the white base. Throughout the afternoon, over sixty people participated! Due to the size of the pathway, multiple stations were set up: a kids area with brushes and non-toxic paint, a “paint by section” area, stencil area, and a large mural area depicting the prairies, mountain, and sky.
