Group: Inglewood BIA
Date: 2023
Location: Inglewood, SE
The Inglewood BIA received an ActivateYYC grant to fund activations in an empty lot along 9th Ave. There was a variety of elements that went into the project including tree and shrub plantings, entrance arch, bike parking, engagement sessions, shelters and shade, seating, jersey barrier painting, and lighting. Jersey barriers were painted by local artist Corinne Dickson, and displayed local pollinators and beautiful naturally scenery.
When we asked Rebecca O’Brien, lead project organizer, what advice she would give to someone pursuing an ActivateYYC project, she said: “Talk to people at a grassroots level, always. Spend lots of time on site, and never shy from stopping complete strangers to get their thoughts on what would bring them to the location, what would turn a space into a place.”
