Northern Hills Mural/Art Along the Way

The Northern Hills Community Association transformed a regular fence that lined one of its busier roads into the longest mural in Canada. The mural is 850 meters long, which is about 12 residential blocks on average. Painting the Northern Hills Mural was no easy task, as it started on August 4th, 2018 and was completed on August 6th, 2018. Over the course of the three days, the project saw over 800 different volunteers! The organizers were happy to provide an event that the entire family could be a part of. This project transformed a space, engaged the community and broke the Canadian record for the longest mural.

A mural this large requires quite a few different permits, and a lot of planning. Northern Hills Community Associating knew this would be the case and planned accordingly, securing funds and donations to ensure this project was a success. All $1,500 of the ActivateYYC grant went towards the painting supplies needed to cover such a vast space.
