Tales on the Way: Stories of Migration

TALES on the Way was an open mic storytelling event that was held in mid-September of 2017. Originally planned to take place at Prince’s Island Park, poor weather forced the group inside and the event took place at Eau Claire Market. However, this didn’t dampen their spirits and the energy and enthusiasm around the event stayed high!

Upwards of 25 tellers and listeners attended the free event, with several more wandering in and out as they passed through the mall. One woman who was passing by to attend a Running Room group run joined TALES after her event, and ended up telling the story of her immigration to Canada from Hong Kong. The power of story to build community and create a better understanding between people is undeniable.

Although no City approvals were needed for this event, TALES did add the City as additional insurance on their Alberta insurance policy. With the support of Eau Claire Market, TALES was able to hold a successful and engaging event that was completely funded by the $400.00 they received from ActivateYYC!
