Humpy Hollow Park Improvement

Humpy Hollow Park Improvement

Humpy Hollow Park is a picturesque Calgary park, complete with green grass play areas backdropped by the historic McHugh House. However, the Beltline Neighbourhood Association noticed there was a lack of available seating when large events would occur. After hearing about the possibilities of the ActivateYYC microgrant, the association decided to apply for a project to revitalize the park and increase the available seating!

After receiving a grant of $750.00 from ActivateYYC, the BNA purchased colourful and durable plastic Adirondack chairs for residents to use. They were even able  to get the chairs on sale, meaning 34 chairs could be purchased instead of the proposed 30! The Beltline Neighbourhood Association predicts that the chairs will see around 1000 people use them during their 13-month lifespan.

This ActivateYYC project did not require any permits, but permits and approvals will be needed as the chairs are requested for different park events in the future. The Humpy Hollow Park improvement represented the spirit of ActivateYYC by encouraging people to walk to the park to try the chairs, adding some playful colour to the area and inspiring residents to sit, talk and get to know one another in a welcoming space!
