Intergenerational Walk by Fun

The Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens’ Association (CCECA) held a two-part challenge that took place from March to June 2018. Part one of the Intergenerational Walk by Fun encouraged the participants to walk indoors under the supervision of a CCECA fitness instructor during the unpredictable March weather. During April, May and June the participants were encouraged to walk for 30 minutes or more every day and log the number of steps they took and the amount of time they spent walking.

There were 155 participants that took part in the challenge, and almost all of them completed the challenge. One participant even tracked his steps while overseas on a holiday! The organizers received $750 from ActivateYYC, which they used to purchase pedometers (step counters) and create the log books for each participant. Due to the nature of this event, no permits were needed.
