In an exciting and unique effort to “take back the street” and transform a public space, St. Matthews United Church decided to host a walk-in movie event, where residents could gather together to enjoy a movie under the stars. After receiving $625 from ActivateYYC, the road was closed using a block party permit from the City of Calgary. A small green space was used to create games and activities for everyone of all ages and attendees included community neighbours, members of the church congregation and family and friends. The ActivateYYC event was complete with snack bar and food trucks, music, and the evening was capped off with a free screening of Cars 3 on a giant inflatable movie screen on the street. Around 100-150 people attended the movie night which was full of fun and excitement!
