The space adjacent to the bus loop at the Heritage LRT station became the home of a pop-up transit plaza over three weekends spread throughout July, August and September of 2021. Sustainable Calgary wanted to activate the underused space by the LRT station and thus, a small park was created out of AstroTurf with planter baskets to beautify the space. In the park, there was lounge seating, music and a variety of outdoor games readily available for passersby to use. A ground mural installation was even completed during the weekend of the third pop-up!
This event used a cost of $14,500 with 25+ volunteers and over 100 participants! It was exciting to see that the project not only activated a public place, but also a work place of our essential workers.
