BEAT THE HEAT with the New Brighton Travelling Lemonade Stand.
New Brighton Residents Association and New Brighton Community Association received an ActivateYYC grant to create a travelling and rentable lemonade/hot chocolate stand, kitted out with everything a young entrepreneur could dream of. The association’s wanted to invest in a program that could engage the children in the neighbourhood, and help them develop new business, organizational, social, and advocacy skills… and so far it has done exactly that!
NBRA GM Clare Lovely recounts her favourite story of the project so far: “The first children to use the Lemonade Stand were two young girls. At first they were very shy, they hadn’t done something like this before. As the event went on, they really came out of their shells! They were asking people off the path to come try their lemonade, and if people responded with “they had no money”, they would offer them free samples. Seeing these two girls come out of their shells really made my day! The confidence the Lemonade Stand gave them was astonishing to watch.”
